We’ve all picked up a gossip magazine or read a celebrity blog and know that Over The Knee (OTK) boots are the hottest trend right now. I love shoes and OTK boots are no exception! However, this trend could be a little tricky to wear especially because it reminds us of the oldest profession in history …prostitution! Remember Pretty Lady? If these boots are worn the wrong way, people will not hesitate to judge you.
I put together a quick how-to on this hot trend. I hope this helps some of you.
DISCLAIMER: I am by no means, a fashion authority. Just hoping to point out some quick tips so you don’t commit a fashion DON’T.
Remember: Celebrities like Rihanna, don’t normally follow these rules. She is a public figure and being theatrical in her industry is preferred. We, the mere mortals need to be conscientious of our appearance in order to keep our jobs. (lol)

Over-The-Knee VS Thigh-High Boots
Thigh-High boots push the edge on “flashy/trashy”. If you do decide to go with Thigh-High's, be sure to wear non-body-hugging pieces on top. A good way to wear THIGH-HIGHs is to pair with leggings, tights, loose fitting dresses or with a long loose fitting-wrap sweater. Try to avoid low necklines and too-short hemlines on dresses.

Over-The-Knee Boots on Short Girls
No one wants to feel left out of a trend because of their height. I am 5’1” and for me this is a major challenge because OTK boots have a tendency to make you look stumpy. If you are vertically-challenged, like me, be sure to find boots that don’t hit too high on your thighs. The issue of the heel height is debatable and it’s really down to how comfortable you are in heels. I would wear these boots with a 2-3” heel so I don’t look too pressed on to the floor. Also, Keep the top portion of the outfit simple. Sweater dresses, leggings, loose fitting tops. When buying these OTK boots, definitely try them at the store. Thin shorter girls are at an advantage because thinner legs appear longer.
Knock yourself out in these boots. You, my friend, have probably been blessed with long legs and these boots just look amazing on you. Pair them with leggings and loose fitting tops and you’re in business. Just keep in mind to not show too much on top to avoid looking "cheap" and more like a fashionista.
Leather VS Suede
Leather is definitely a litte bit more flashy. I would avoid Patent leather styles, this screams “trashy”. Suede boots are more demure (and quite hot this season). Try them in flats!
Are OTK Boots Safe For Work?
This is completely on a case by case basis. If you work in fashion or in creative, most likely you are ok. If your company has a no-jeans rule, this is probably not a good place to wear your OTK boots.
Final Thoughts
The bottom line is that these boots should be used to accentuate your outfit, they are not a piece of clothing (even though they cover your legs). Try on a few outfits with your boots in front of a mirror and be honest with yourself. Happy Shopping!
XOXO,
Awilda
